I am negotiating to buy a 2012 Ranger Tug R27 that is equipped with AC but does not have heat. I'm in the south so heat is not "that" big of a deal however it seems a bit strange. Is this configuration something that I should be concerned about? Your advice is sincerely appreciated.

I cant really reply with confidence, but on my 30 cutwater, the AC will also produce heat in reverse cycle ( like a heat pump) and the closed loop system when the engine is running will also produce heat for you.

I own a 2012 R27 with A/C. The unit has a reverse cycle mode that produces warm air for heat. It's quite effective. I used it extensively while at my slip in November before I took my boat out of the water. The problem is the lack of any kind of insulation on the boat so the unit tends to run often, depending on the thermostat setting and outside air temperature.

As mentioned above, while the boat is underway and off shore power, heat is provided by the engine cooling system that circulates through a small heat exchanger under the helm floor. A fan blows air over the heat exchanger which is routed into the cabin. I've used it once and it was effective.

Thanks guys. I'll run that by the current owner. He told me the boat had air but did not have heat. I found that a bit odd. I'll let you know how it turns out. Thanks much. Sam

The A/C should have reverse cycle. Either the owner is not aware of that or it does not work in reverse cycle. Many times it is a jammed valve and a replacement valve will fix the issue.

Per current owner = AC could be aftermarket but does not have reverse cycle heat. Closed loop heat from the engine should be sufficient to meet our southern heat needs however. Thanks for the responses.
