Does the marine head on the 2017 R29 CB use fresh or salt water for flushing?

Thanks,
Eric

Salt water, although with some effort you can plumb it to use fresh. Or, as I am sure someone will chime in about, get an airhead toilet.

With the earlier Jabsco heads you could use fresh water from the pull out faucet to flush the toilet (just hit "empty"), but not with the current head. We like being able to use both (fresh when lots available, salt when cruising). We take possession of La Barka on Thursday and will begin the effort to come up with a plan for using fresh and salt.

Thanks Jeff,

My last boat had a freshwater head so I'll have to get back up to speed on handling the saltwater.

On the newer boats will the shower head still reach the head ? If so you can always just fill the head with the shower and do a waterless flush .. If that is still possible . On our electric head if you push both buttons at the same time it just flushes with out adding water.. Might be different now

Only safe way is to put a atmospheric vacuum breaker in the fresh water line to the head. Using a N.C. solenoid with a push button and a vacuum breaker mounted 12-18" above the rim hooked up to your fresh water system. I would plumb it in with a tee between the pump and bowl connection.
Never ever connect a fresh water line directly to a marine head without some form of backflow prevention. A check valve in the line is not going to do it.

Thanks! That is very useful and appropriate advice. Once I get a chance to crawl around on the boat I will see what is accessible. Coming from the 27, many ideas became infeasible due to aching bones and general lack of limberness. We shall see what the 29CB offers for challenges.

snydzy - can you explain further why a backflow (one way) valve is not going to work? Others have suggested this path with apparent success. And shouldn't the T be before the fresh water pump?

The previous advice concerned a R27, maybe there is a relevant difference?
