Good Morning:

While asking Ranger Tugs about canvas, I was told that: "The only side window we don’t hang a curtain on is the one near the stove due to it being a fire hazard. This window should be the only side window that came with an exterior piece of canvas."

I advised Ranger Tugs that our 2018 has a curtain installed on the interior window near the stove and asked if it should be removed. I received no reply to date.

Appreciate if other R29 owners have a curtain near the stove or if our boat had it installed incorrectly.

Thanks!

Mike

We have a curtain near the stove with a reminder sign posted to slide that curtain forward when using the stove.

I have the curtain for the window above the stove installed on the inside. I simply withdraw it to its aft position when using the stove.

BTW... On the R27/OB with less beam than on the R29 S/CB there's no curtain on the inside of the window above the stove as there's little room or less room for it compared to the R29 s/CB.

We modified our interior privacy on our R27-OB that included a curtain / track above the stove, identical to what RT installs elsewhere, and also a drape with snaps above the dashboard. These two items have eliminated the need to snap exterior canvas, which was very inconvenient. Regarding the curtain above the stove, we feel quite capable for our own safety when using the stove.

Mike: I'm sure RT is simply complying with local Fire Rules/Codes when they refrain from installing a curtain above the stove on any of their boat models.

I enquired about this lack of a curtain on my previous 2018 R27/OB and was told by RT explicitly it was absent to comply with Fire Codes.

If one has a boat without the curtain above the stove and then installing one of their own, it is at owners' risk, and their responsibility to act carefully using the stove while the curtain is drawn across the window.

I have the curtain above the stove and when using the stove I simply draw the curtain to be out of the way. I also have a nearby fire blanket to smother any flames that could result from cooking etc. The propane stove can emit very hot air above the stove, and its convection could very well disturb the hanging curtain above the stove and cause it to flare and move inwards above the stove and be subject to a fire risk, especially if the stove is left unattended.

We have a curtain over our stove, 2011 R29. No issues if handled properly. I also have a piece of window canvas and never knew what is was for until reading this thread. 😀

Thanks all. Suspect I got conflicting info by a misunderstanding of what model boat I had.

I have a 2017 R-29 CB and it’s equipped the same (interior curtain and exterior canvas). I asked hey only that side window had the exterior canvas and the fire hazard issue with the stove was explained. The exterior canvas is somewhere in my garage lol. I generally have the curtains open and in any event just move the curtain to the side when using the stove. I like that the interior is fully curtained and will take personal responsibility for opening then as needed 😉

Interested in doing the same. Were you able to order the curtain from RT? I have the 27 OB and measure the starboard window at the dinette to be a little larger than the port one. But thought a about trying to order one. I found the track and everything else. Just not sure of the fabric color and manufacture.
