R29-S

We looked at Camano Trolls, Nordic Tugs and Rangers, and had pretty much narrowed it down to Ranger. Checked out all the smaller models and were close to offering on a used 27 when the Seattle Boat Show came along. When we boarded the 29S prototype, it was love at first sight. We signed up on the spot. Now, if next April could get here just a little sooner...
 
Congrats... I can't imagine what the wait is like ..hope the time goes quickly for you.

Maybe "S" stands for "Smart" choice. 😉 No matter, good decision and congratulations. Since you are located in the Seattle area you can afford yourself a peek now and then at your boat's assembly all the way to when it rolls out the factory door. I suspect they build the R-29S in Monroe which is but a few miles north and east of you. If you do this take photos of the assembly so you capture wiring, plumbing and things that will end up hidden from view with final assembly. I did this with my R-25 and have all that as my archive, reference material and part of the boats documentation.
 
We are looking at a March delivery. It has been fun watching the various tweaks taking place on the boat as the production process matures. Looking forward to the Seattle Boat Show in late January.

The better half and I toured the 29S at the Baltimore Boat Show. We went in thinking seriously of the Cutwater 28, but the 29S really grabbed me. I like the wider beam (we have no need for trailoring, so the 8'6" beam of the 28 is a negative), and the light inside was great. The translucent ceiling panel in the head (larger than the 28's) was a nice touch. I miss the side door (one of the downsides to the 28 as well); I appreciate peoples' comments about how they handle docking without one.

Anyone familiar with a (now out of production) boat called the Fathom Element? Larger at 40', and a pilothouse, but the same combination of tug styling elements with a little bit of sleekness.

We plan to go out with the Pocket Yachts folks later in the spring. It will be interesting to see the 29S performance and ride compared to the 28.
 
If you are not trailering it - no need to wait for the sea trial! No way the 28 Cutwater is going to stand up to the spaciousness and comfort of the wider 29S. Unless you are looking for unloaded speed to a fishing hole or something the 29 S is bound to impress.
 
My wife fell hard for the new R29S at the Wharf Marina Boat Show, Orange Beach, AL
this past March 2015. Despite our new 2014 C-Dory 26 Venture which we like, she envied
the storage, the interior design, the openness with almost uncountable windows and especially
'the ride'.

The nice folks at Edgewater Marina in Perdido Key, FL invited us to ride back with them from the
boat show to see how she felt in motion. Thus, we experienced the ride difference of a wider,
longer and heavier planing hull in some ICW created 'seas'. Also, the R29S has significantly increased
freeboard compared to our CD 26 and feels like a much bigger boat.

It was impressive I must say. Even I liked it. Until a moderate cross wind piped up while I was at the
helm on calm ICW water. I took her off autopilot to get a feel for manual steering. I was surprised that
it took considerable manual correction to stay on course and counter the cross wind. From this I
deduced the rudder was undersized for the amount of windage of the above water vessel. It made me
feel a really stiff breeze, in open water with quartering seas, manual steering would be somewhat of a
challenge. I did not adjust the trim tabs to attempt to correct the crosswind as windward leaning was absent.

The other missing link keeping this boat off my 'must have' list is the absent helm side door already
mentioned. Other than that, real nice boat.

I believe the S stands for sedan. We just traded our 27 for the new 29 S. It does not have the fly bridge.
 
Just looked at the 28S at Trawlerfest. It now has a flybridge. Also presented was a hard top over the cockpit on the 31 Sedan. The 29S was popular at the show. I bet it spent more time giving test rides than at the dock.
