Subject: R29S/CB Webasto diesel pickup on aft fuel tank?

I'm curious to know if owners of the R29 S/CB have seen diesel fuel oozing out of the fuel tank's pickup connection for the Webasto heater ? This connection is clearly seen when removing the floor section immediately inside the cabin door. The small diameter copper tubing runs from the pickup to the Webasto's filter inside the adjacent black box.

I had a dock buddy with a 2020 R29 CB that showed diesel oozing from the pickup connection to the tank. It was speculated that this was because the fuel tank had possibly been overfilled somewhat.

This leak was not evident at first, but was uncovered after noticing diesel fuel in the aft bilge. It was a mystery as to how the diesel came to be there. Later it was discovered it came from the Webasto's fuel pickup connection at the aft end of the fuel tank. Diesel evidently had pushed up to the connection when the refueling was done and presumably the fuel under some pressure toward the end of the fuel fillup had found its way out through the connection seal and eventually flowed back to the aft bilge.

After working with my dock buddy on this issue I checked my connection and the area around the connection seal was absolutely dry. 😀

Just passing this happening along for others who may have found diesel in the aft bilge after a fuel fillup.

We had this exact problem in our R-29 this weekend. Diesel in the bilge and wet on top of fuel tank. We traced it to a loose connection for the Webasto fuel intake on top of the tank. Could see it slowly dripping. Fuel probably ran down the aft side of tank into the bilge. Tightening it solved the problem. It’s possible the leak was compounded by filling our tank full, which as noted below may have created some pressure up the intake.
