As part of preparing for a new season (my 1st full season with new Ranger 29S delivered last July) I went back through the Factory Orientation checklist. There were a few things I could not remember, as listed below, and I was hoping someone else could help.

1. Where is the “DC House breaker”?

2. How to bypass a Charge Relay in case voltage falls below 10.8v?

3. Where is the raw water washdown filter? There is not one integral with the pump.

4. Where is the Webasto heater fuel shutoff valve?

Although not part of the checklist, in last week’s webinar, Andrew noted that we should shutoff the inverter when on anchor and not planning to use 110v appliances. Should we shut it off with the red rotary switch in the port cockpit locker or via the electronic KISAE panel in the cave?

Thx to anyone with some answers!

We have a 2018 R29s. I can probably answer some of these....

I am not sure what you mean by a "DC House Breaker." There are the battery switch that will turn all the house DC off. Beyond that, each system has a breaker (at least 1)…..

I don't recall how to reset the ACR's....I'll follow this to learn more.

The raw water washdown has a strainer just up from the thru hull. That is the only raw water washdown filter I know of.

The Webasto fuel shutoff is under the floor near the fresh water pump. It is a small valve. The valve controls an 1/8: line...

I was told that the Kiase shut off panel is fine to turn off the inverter.

I hope that helps.

Hey Doug,

I can answer the questions Rocky wasn't able to help with.

The DC "house breaker" is going to be in the port side cockpit locker on the port outboard wall, there should be 2-3 breakers that are labeled depending if it is a command bridge or not.

To bypass the ACR's you will need a battery cable about 1-2ft long, you would then have to remove the cover of the ACR's and put one end of the cable on terminal "A" then install the other end on the other ACR on terminal "A" and wait for the batteries to charge up. This is something that shouldn't be needed unless you don't charge the boat for extended amount of time (1+ month). As long as you are aware of your voltage usage this shouldn't be needed.

We equip the washdown with a strainer right at the ball valve in the engine compartment but also double check at the pump itself for a strainer on the pump like on your fresh water pump.

Hope this helps answer any questions. Also feel free to email me direct if you have any additional questions.

Thank you,
Kevin Lamont

There is another way to get around the ACR issue as it kicks off when the voltage drops below 10.8v and won't come back on until it is above that. I just did this yesterday following instructions from Tim at Ranger Tugs.

Put the switch in the OFF position and not SHORE or GENERATOR. All you need to do is get the voltage above 10.8v. To do this you can take one cable and connect the positive on the thruster to the positive on a house battery. Alternatively, if you have a small rapid charge that can deliver over 10.8v immediately to the positive of the thruster battery, that will work too. Before you disconnect the cable, turn the switch to SHORE or GENERATOR. Now disconnect the cable. The ACR will continue to charge and the thruster battery will jump above 108v immediately. Continue to charge the battery for several hours. Then turn the switch back to OFF. If the battery shows voltage, your finished. If not, you probably have a bad battery.

Thanks for the replies. The terminology I used (e.g., DC House Breaker) in my questions was straight from the Ranger Orientation Checklist.

I believe I have answers to most of my questions. Since there is no “filter” or strainer on the wash down pump, I assume there is no filter in the wash down system per se, but there is a strainer in the shared seawater suction line for the head and wash down system. However, I could not find a valve on the small diameter metal tubing running from the quill fitting on the diesel tank to the Webasto pump, nor is one visible on the pump assembly discharge line before it leaves the compartment below the galley floor. Is it possible that no fuel isolation valve was installed or am I looking in the wrong place?

Hey Doug,

Sorry I miss read what you were asking on the Webasto. We do not use a valve inline for the Webasto pump, the only fuel shut off valve you will find would be in the engine compartment on the port side wall close to your primary (white) fuel filter. We have changed this in the past year or so, older models had the valves on the tank. Hope this helps.

Thank you,

Thank you Kevin. Looks like a few updates are needed to the Orientation Checklist.
