R31 Anchor Rode Issue

I have a new R-31S, just took her out for a couple nights on the hook. Blowing 15-20 knots, 9' water, put out 50' of chain and another 30' of nylon. Holding was fine, boat swings quite a bit. However, when swinging the rode lifts out of the channel for the anchor and when it swings back and snaps back in the channel, it emits a large bang heard while trying to sleep in the V-berth. I ended up tying line around the channel that holds the anchor to keep the rode from lifting out. Any other ideas?

you should take the load of the windlass when anchored.

tie a rolling hitch with a mooring line to the anchor rode and tie this off to the bow cleat (large) - let out the windlass so its slack and load is on the mooring cleat line .Therefore all anchor loads are on guwhale and cleat and not the bow roller

Thanks. I used to do this with my Beneteau Swift Trawler (all chain with a snubber) but it had two big bow cleats on the gunwale which made it easy. The only one bow cleat I have now is behind (aft of) the windlass, well aft of the bow. With the amount of swing the boat has in higher wind, the cleated mooring line will be rubbing all over the gunwale on one side. This boat has chocks pretty far aft of the bow which would hold the boat pretty far off the wind. FYI, dealer told me this boat has a beefy enough windlass to take the loads.

We use the Mantus anchor bridle system, which seems to work reasonably well. We still get some swing, but it's pretty low frequency. We can use the chain hook for shorter scope or a rolling hitch on the anchor rode when we have more out.

I use the Mantus bridal system on both side cleats on my R31. They are a bit long and sometimes I short tie them instead of using the loops, but the side cleats still work well
