R31CB - Port side cabin window leak

We have a leak somewhere around the port side cabin window. At times, I can see water laying in the interior window tracking, which then seeps down the wall next to the dinette table and seat. I am not sure where it is making its entry. It wouldn’t appear to be coming into the upper part of the window frame, as it is somewhat protected by the window brow. But I am not ruling this out. I attached a picture of the window interior. The boat is currently covered so I was unable to photograph the exterior for reference. On the outside, above this window is the port side marker light, brow, and railing. I have never felt the small piece of carpet above the window wet or damp, but there is some discoloration visible.

Any suggestions as to how to tackle this issue? Anyone else experienced this problem? Spring is approaching and I’d like to abate this problem ASAP!

Any input is appreciated!

Hello Al,

Is this the first time you've noticed the leak? Has any hardware been added to the exterior of the boat recently? Once the boat is uncovered I'd suggest spraying down the outside of the boat while someone is inside looking for leaks. Also, make sure the window is shut all the way. 😉

Thanks,
-Kenny

We noticed the leak last summer and only during certain rains. Nothing new has been added to the boat in the area!

Thanks,

Ok, once the boat is unwrapped it'd give it a good bath to try and find the leak.

The service manager at our marina suggested using a garden hose once she was uncovered. He said to slowiy work our way up the boat around the window. I suppose this is a better idea than soaking the thing and when it leaks not knowing what section it is coming from.

Thank you,
Al Sr.

A few years ago we had a leak on our R27 into the cave. Eventually we tracked it down to a small gap in the external rubber seal/trim at the bottom of the aft-side fixed window which had pulled back (basically shrunk or shifted it looked like) about half an inch from the edge where it meets bow side window. In heavy rain water was running down the window, working its way in and then down behind the mouse fur. Worth a look anyway. Good luck.
