Hi, we are having issues with our 2020 Garmin Radar. It will work for 2 hours or so and suddenly quit, the radar that is. We are getting “error code 1026, modular power fault” and “error code 1017, modular interface fault”. I’ve updated all the software on the Garmin as well as checked all the cables to make sure they are clean and tight. Once this happens we are not able to get it working unless we power the Garmin off and the back on. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Has been happening for 6 months or so on a very new boat. It’s pretty disconcerting in the fog. Garmin website does not offer much help other than what I’ve done. Don’t know what to do. Should I go directly to Garmin or hire an expert? It should still be under warranty. Can the RT guys help me? I hate to ask them as I know how busy they are. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

go to the dealer you bought the boat from?

I've dealt with Garmin for problems while under warranty and found them easy to work with and great for getting replacements out. The web site isn't very useful, but if you register your device and it's under warranty their support is pretty good.

Hi Waterhorse,

Your best course would be to reach out to your dealer so they can help you with the diagnostic process and get Garmin involved if necessary. Not sure what these codes are, so doing proper diagnosis starting with the dealer is important. Please let us know if you need any additional help or have other questions in the meantime.

Thank you,

Ralf

Thank you for the replies everyone, I did reach out to Garmin this morning and they confirmed that the radar module was bad based on those codes. They will be sending me a new unit at no cost as soon as I take the old one off and send back in a prepaid overnight box. They were extremely cooperative and also quite informative. They also indicated that once the radar was switched out, we did not need to do any other configuring to the chart plotter.
