Couple of quick questions: What is the standard railing thickness is for the deck/cockpit rails on an R25SC? Also, has anyone here used the FastFenders fender holder/adjusters and what do you think of them?

The last time i used some gadget to hold/adjust fenders ended up in the drink with the fender. So I am sticking with my knots and lines.

Knots to secure my fenders. Keep it simple. Save your money and buy a knot book.

Yup....knots are free, can't be dropped over the side, never break, are infinitely adjustable, and are a source of pride. Clove hitch. Pretty simple and easy to tie quickly. Use a slippery clove hitch for easy untying and quick adjustment. Lotsa web resources for learning, or just ask ANY Boy Scout.

I have the Taylor Made fender hangers and like them (link below). I use them on our stern fenders. I saw these on an R-31 in our marina and thought they were a good idea. It makes it easier for the crew (wife) to flip the fenders into the cockpit. I originally had the fenders tied off on the stern cleats but the length of line was too short to be able to readily have them sit well in the cockpit without readjusting the line - and having to reverse it when pulling back into the slip. I'm a long time sailor and know my knots but sometimes you have to accommodate the crew (wife). :lol:

I have no experience with Fast Fenders, but I can tie knots and use gadgets. I really like FenderGrips, like this

The FastFenders looks good! The rope grip on the Taylor Made is just a open press fit. A figure-8 stopper is a good idea but the FastFender captures the rail a bit better.

On my new 2018 R-27 the cockpit has no rails. So I'm left with the three cleats for attaching the fenders. Stern, midships and bow 😱

IMO.... fender deployment needs some serious innovations by the boating industry. Having to hang fenders is so yesterday's technology. :lol:

The hull sides need to be adaptive to docking situations such that with the push of a button some 'rubbery thing' balloons outwards at spots where the traditional fenders are likely to be placed. Do we have any inventors out there ????? :roll:

Respectfully, save your money on a gadget that you really need. I tried three or four different fender holders before I went back to knots. I like gadgets too, which is why I tried a bunch....

Whatever you do, the important thing it to get enjoyment out if your boat!
