My chart plotter (Garmin 7612 xsv) Range (mpg x gallons remaining) has been acting strange the last month.
For example, with 140 gallons getting 5 mpg, the chart plotter may show 550 miles, or 170, or 22, or 0, or anything in between.

I'm not sure where the chart plotter gets it's info, but the Yamaha Engine Display (YED) shows the mpg and gph, which seems to be accurate based on prior observations. Also, the YED fuel level (bars) is close to what the chart plotter displays.
i.e., the YED shows 9 bars and the chart plotter shows 140 gallons with 150 gallons capacity. It's not exact, but it is reasonable.

The variance happens during a trip. I can start showing xxx miles (incorrect) and then it will go up or down.
If I stop to anchor, it invariably shows 0.0 when I start up again.

Oh, I doubt it is a software update issue. The chart plotter software was updated long before this problem arose recently.

Do I call Garmin, or Yamaha?
Anyone else had this problem?

Thanks,
Jeff

I did an update in May. In June my Range went to --- and has never worked since. I believe it is a software issue. There was another thread about this a few weeks ago. Not many comments about the issue.

Thanks Brian,

I assumed it was a software issue vice hardware. Hope there is a fix soon!
See you over at the AGLCA site.

Excellent! I will D/L it tonight.

I downloaded the update, but my version still shows 2020.00
I just today ran Active Captain on my phone and it says Updates Ready To Install. Grrrr.
I'll try it again this weekend and let you know.

I've tried to update 3 times and my Range is still wonky (version 20.00)! I downloaded the latest update to a chip, plugged it in, and the Active Captain screen says software is up to date. I don't know how to proceed. Can't find a link on the Garmin site to help. Any ideas? I called the number and got no answer.

Thanks,

Jeff,
If you've confirmed that the Garmin unit has the latest version running, then you need to reach out to tech support. The Garmin Tech Support Page: https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?produ ... tab=topics shows three ways to contact them: call, chat, and email. Personally, I always try chat first when available during business hours.

Good luck,
Paul
