Ranger 21EC with Volvo Engines

Just received notice that Volvo is replacing certain D1-30 and D2-40 engines because of emission issues. New engine and everything hooked back up at no charge. I think you'll only get the notice if your engine qualifies. You have 24 months to take advantage of this.

Thanks for posting this. For all that read this, I will have a clear statement that will be posted in the next few days to outline the process to take advantage of this recall. First and foremost, there is nothing wrong with your engine. Use it just the way you would have before. This is actually a huge benefit for owners that have a Volvo D1 engine. Be back with a complete response shortly as I work through this with Volvo.

I received a letter from Volvo today and it states the Recall is because EPA determined that some of the D1-30 and D2-40 engines may be emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal Emissions Standards as defined in the Title 40 of the Code of Federal Regulations. These standards were established to protect the public's health or welfare from air pollution.

The Volvo letter I received also confirms what Andrew posted.... That is, "This issue has no impact on performance, drivability, or safety of the engines and involves a limited quantity of engines". As Mr. T posted, entering or registering you engine serial number will determine if your engine qualifies for the engine replacement free of charge.

There's a 24 month period for having the engine replaced which expires Jul 1, 2019.

As Andrew has posted, it's best to wait for Ranger Tugs official response concerning this Recall and that it really is a huge benefit if your engine qualifies for the Recall.

If I am not mistaken, every Ranger Tug R21EC with a D1 installed will qualify for the recall. Volvo has communicated with all of their dealers about this so they will be prepared to help. In the short of it all, there is no rush to take away from the summer cruising or ruin any trips you might have planned. They give you plenty of time to work with a dealer to order the engine and get it installed. Your new engine will come with a brand new warranty and the option to purchase extended coverage! Any questions, you should direct them to the dealer you purchased the boat from.
