ranger boat names

Be careful in selecting a "cute" name. Consider how it will sound over the radio, especially in an emergency. You want the Coast Guard and other boats who may render assistance to be able to tell which boat is in distress!

When you name the boat after your mate, it makes spending money it much, much easier with almost no disagreement. I know, that is what I did.

Can you imagine how much help you would get if you had to say on the radio..." Mayday! Mayday! this is " Poverty Sucks"
I saw this boat in the Bahamas.

I let my wife choose our boat's name. All part of spreading the boat 'ownership' about. 😉

Absolutely no problem wrt its pronunciation over the air, does not attract attention but rather mild interest from official and passer by-s, its two syllables, its one word, it reminds us of the Isle of Man, it's unique and several people think it means "relaxation" 😉 .

My wife is a Psychiatrist, Our R - 29s name is Folie à deux.
This will be our 4th Folie.

I'm looking at the possibility of a R-25. My last boat, an Acadia, was named 'Finnegan's Wake' (Finnegan is a common surname in my clan). In hindsight, it could have had morbid connotations if I needed to send a distress signal.

Being the engineer I was, I'm considering the possibility of 'Entropy' (entropy is the state of disorder). I guess if I needed to send a distress signal, Entropy would be fitting in this scenario...

We had a Ranger 20 sail boat named the Loon.

Think Loon Ranger!

Not buying a R29 and thinking of revisiting the name...wife does not bv want II after it, and wants to state Ranger in the name. I prefer it be subtle and those the figure it out, do so. Simply Loon. Tender could be Tanto.

Thoughts? We close on bv the boat tomorrow.

I noticed back in 2010 when this thread was started. The OP asked if anyone was using the name LOAN RANGER? Before finding this topic we decided to name our boat just that. LOAN RANGER and our tender TONTO

Name it what makes you happy. There are many duplicates so it matters not.

You could name it after your banker........ "Loan Arranger"

My mom was a commercial banker when my parents bought their first sailboat in the 80s. "Floating Interest" 😀

We get a lot of compliments on our boat name: SEAduced.
I also like Sail bad the sinner!

The admiral came up with SNUG for our Ranger. It is unique as far as I can tell. I really like it, that is for the feeling we get especially if the weather is less than ideal while cruising, on anytime on a 25 footer with 2 people and a dog. I also like that it is a term used in an Irish pub for a cozy nook.

Our Ranger Tug's name is OH WELL !! Yes with two !! It is the second boat with that name. It is fun watching adults and kids to oh well hand gestures when passing in a channel.

The history of the first OH WELL! was we did a family 4th of July vote in 2010. There were I think 20 voters. The top two names were Personal Problem and Oh Well. When the kids would call from college way back when for money and I would answer the phone and say "Oh well sounds like a personal problem".

Of course then they would call back and mom would solve the problem.

Did not put a name on the boat until the fall. I announced at Christmas dinner Oh Well!. Some said not fair was a family vote. The comment back was that I made and "executive" decision. Continue to laugh about it now and then.

They did ask when got the Tug if doing Personal Problem. Answer was two !!

Have fun being creative with naming YOUR boat.

Oh Well!!
