Hello all,

We are lifelong sailors but are now thinking of getting a powerboat and we like a lot of the things with the Rangers. We are a young family living in Vancouver BC and are looking at a used R25-27’s. We have been aboard a couple Rangers and really like the layout and think they’ll be perfect for us. However, we have yet to actually go out on one and see how they handle. Our first thought was to try and charter one for the weekend but it seems like a week is the minimum time and it’s quite expensive.

So random question – would anyone be willing to take us out for an hour or so sometime in the future? We of course would cover any fuel costs and pay for your time. We are located in North Vancouver but could obviously meet you anywhere. We would also wear masks because of COVID concerns.

Thanks Jen 😀

Jen, My 2016 R27 is in charter in Anacortes. Here she is: http://shipharboryachts.com/yacht.cfm?table=toki&name=Toki&n=16&desc=Ranger Tug 27&s=2

I realize this may not work for you in the near future until the border opens, but if there is a way for you to get to Anacortes I'm sure they'd be able to arrange a shorter term charter. Charter bookings are just starting to rebound from the Covid thing, but there are still many available time slots this summer and I think they'd be flexible.

HI Toki,

Thanks you so much for the information. I guess we will have to wait and see on the borders opening.

Port Boat House has a North Vancouver office. They are the dealer for Ranger. They handle both new and used boats.

We're in Victoria and looked at "Sidetrack" a 2009 R 25 located at Bayview in Sidney (second hyperlink from the top). We looked and walked right past it, there's years of growth at the waterline, varnish is peeling off the wood in the cockpit, there was spider webs everywhere, it looked so unkept. It is on sale for 92K CAD, not worth more than 60K (if you take into consideration that close to 30K will need to be spent tuning it up back to life).

My best advice, walk the marinas and talk to current Tug owners. That's how we found a diamond in the rough and purchased through a private sale. Like houses, the good ones don't stay on the market long, so the ones that you see advertised online probably have issues and are not worth looking at unless you want to spend a lot to fix them.

Stefan,
Good advice! Yeah, a lot of the older ones that have been on the market a long time do have some issues. I was on 5 different R-25’s over 5 months before I found Our Journey and made an offer. It was the right boat for us but took a long time to find it.
My best advice to the OP is to know what you want, be patient but act quickly when you find the right for you boat!
But if you just want 2 hours on the water, almost any example will give you the feel for how it handles!

Good afternoon,

My name is Dave Turner from Port Boat House, we are your local Ranger dealer.

I have a couple of ideas for you both.

My cell is 1-250-720-1376

Please feel free to write or call anytime and I should be able to get you out on the water soon
