I have a Ranger inflatable Model RT260. I want to register it in Illinois. Do these dingy's have a serial # on them? The State of Illinois require more than a model#.

Thanks,
Matt Murphy

On our RT dinghy there is a small hull number plate starting "FML ..." If I recall correctly it is on the transom next to a loop attachment. A photo of that was sufficient here.

More difficult was to get a manufacturer's bill of sale for the dinghy (for the title registration to go along with the tags) -- apparently the dealer forgot that but came up with it when asked.

Illinois changed title laws this year. I believe any watercraft under 20' does not need a title. You do have to register the boat with a bill of sale, pay tax and issue either the last registration if used or the HI# normally located on the transom or on the capacity plate. We live in IL. We use the boat in Racine Wis and that is were we have to register the boat because our boat is moored there and used in Wisconsin. Wisconsin is also much cheaper with sales tax and registration so Boat documented as homeport Racine, Cutwaterregistered in Racine, Gala dingy registered in Racine, Infinity Trailer registered in racine. I am building a dingy( No title) for our Cutwater almost finished and applied for registration in Wisconsin for it $22.00 3 years.
