We are looking at trading in our Bayliner and becoming Tug Nuts! Just wondering if there are others with the R-27 with kids. We are a family of four with two kids aged 10 and 12. They fit well in the V-berth of our Bayliner and we sleep in the spacious aft cabin. We only have a 30' slip so we'd have to commit to the R-27 for a while. How do others manage? Is the boat going to be too small for us?

For the weekend it's fine IMO. Boats bring families together. The only time of inconvenience will be the sleeping arrangements. The rest is outdoor stuff or hanging out. More than a week or two, I would wonder.

We know folks who have cruised for weeks at a time with 5 people on a 22 foot C-Dory. For some families, a 60' boat isn't enough. Because of the up and down levels on your Bayliner, you probably have more square footage than an R-27, but the Ranger will feel more open in the cabin. If you do fine on your Bayliner, I would expect you will do the same with the Ranger.

Enjoy the kids - in another couple years, they will want to be doing things with their friends (instead of with parents). In the blink of an eye, they will be off to college. From my perspective, the R-27 is a great couple's cruiser, still easily trailerable with the right tow vehicle.

The issue on a boat isn't just space, but "private space" and room for everyone's stuff. We all have unique travel styles... and the Ranger would have you traveling in style.
