Hi - I just had a survey completed on a 2016 21 EC and one item noted [the boat is in Florida but will be in Chesapeake Bay] is "Remove the copper based antifouling paint from the propeller and rudder. Replace with PropSpeed or the correct type of anti-fouling". I know that copper based paints can create galvanic issues when applied to aluminum, but I was not aware that anything on the underside of the tug is aluminum [I thought the prop is bronze but not sure about rudder].

Anyway, I want to remove the paint if it is a problem, but if not just keep it as is. Any thoughts?

Thanks - Tom

Hello Tom,

From the factory level, we do not install paint on any underwater metals. This would have all been done at the dealer level. The prop is bronze and the rudder is stainless and not aluminum. Maybe the surveyor wasn't aware of the materials used?

Thank you,

Thanks Andrew for the quick reply. Yes, I believe you are correct about the surveyor not being familiar with the material. I just wanted to confirm so I did not go to expense to have the paint removed for no reason.
