Hello Everyone,

I have made a service bulletin I would like everyone to check on their R21EC to make sure we do not create any problems for you. I have had more then one report of the heater hoses forcing a coolant hose on the engine into the alternator belt. This is a 5 minute fix and is very easy to do. If you do not feel comfortable doing this job, please email me direct and we will work on getting someone out to your boat to complete the repair. This is not a problem on the majority of boats but I would appreciate a response if you have found this to be a problem with your vessel. Thank you very much for your support through getting this fixed.

Bumped up to get the word out.

Bumped once more for visibility. Attachment can be downloaded from the posting in the Technical Bulletins section, here.

This does not seem to be a problem on the 2008 21ec. The heater hoses are a little longer and don't touch anything.

Please also notice the shift/throttle cable placement.

Andrew,

My 2009 has a bracket and the large hose and the heater hoses mount to it on the port/forward end of the engine.

Your photo doesn't look like my setup. I don't recall a bracket for shift/throttle cables. They're on the starboard/forward section of the engine. I'll check those today.

I would like to see a photo if you have some time. Better safe then sorry!

Andrew,

I take and send you a photo as soon as the rain slows or stops. We're having another of our two inch rain days. 🙂

Does this affect 1995 R21? (Not Extended cab)

Ana,

The issue outlined in this service bulletin should not be a problem on your 1995 R-21 Classic. However, it is always prudent to do a pre-cruise check of all of the belts and hoses prior to firing the motor and getting underway. Obviously if you observe any situation that raises concern it should be remedied prior to leaving the dock. It is never any fun having to make a repair while underway especially if you boat on busy waterways with commercial traffic.

Andrew Custis released this service bulletin back in 2009 to address a particular problem related to the factory routing of the heater hoses on just a handful of newer R-21 EC's produced at that time. On my 2006 R-21 Classic (pre EC) the heater hoses are not routed anywhere near the front of the motor and therefore do not pose any threat to the cooling hoses, accessory drive belts or pulleys.

Hope this answers your question.

Hello, I have an R27 with a Garmin GHC20 and my remote will work however the screen goes blank or dark so I can't read anything on the screen but I am still able to control the boat's direction any ideas will help. I have replaced the batteries.
Thank you.
Jim
