My starter went out and I'm desperately trying to find one. Local supplier says they can get it from Japan ($1100) and it will take 5-6 weeks. I"m a charter captain and this will kill my summer business.

Any chance I can get one from factory and hopefully it doesn't cost his much.

Thank YOU

Tom

If u know your starter part number I may help u

Try your local BMW dealer, I believe it is the same as used in the cars.

Another option is find a local place that rebuilds them...I had one done a couple of years ago...Took the guy about 15 min and it was less than $100.

I'm working on removing the starter so I can look at model / serial and it's tougher than I thought. Several items need to be removed to get to it. Fun!

Thanks for all the feedback.

Is it true the car BMW starter is same as marine?

True...Before I had mine fixed a local BMW dealer was going get one in 3 days...Cost was $545.

Most any good auto electric place can put new brushes, reset the commentator, and check the bearings for hundred bucks or so.

Thomas West. Did you end up taking the starter motor out and/or replacing it?
Do you have any advice to pass on as to what needs to be removed to get to it?
I have a 6by2-260 Yanmar and I believe a dodgy starter motor solenoid.
Any suggestions?

Regards,
Scott
