I currently own a Grand Banks 32. However, I'm looking for an older 21 (or possibly 25) Ranger Tug that I could use to trailer cruise and do a solo Loop in 2016. Can anyone point me to an article or .pdf that might describe the history of these boats? As I search out the older boats I see they have come in a variety of engine and layout options...just trying to do my homework.
Thanks in advance!

Dan, several good articles on the Ranger Tug factory link. Once on the factory website go to Links/Articles and towards bottom of articles you will find several R25 articles and a good one on three R21s taking a trip to Alaska.

I was talking with an Ed Strickland who owns the Northlake Marina in Ballard/Fremont, Seattle and we got talking about Ranger Tugs. He was convinced they started building boats on Vashon Island in the Puget Sound area... but maybe someone else can confirm this. I suspect if true, it was before they were called Ranger Tugs.

Ed also said he's very particular about what boats he allows to moor at his Marina. Bayliners are out, and he loves the Ranger Tug models. 😀 I'm thinking of mooring our R-21EC at his marina for a few months or longer to get more time on the lake waters. Ed's wife manages the marina I believe.

I would expect Jeff Messmer can provide a detailed history of the Ranger Tug company. Maybe you should PM him.

Thanks guys...great article on the Alaskan cruise. I think I want an older 21 to restore. I'll start scouring the internet!

Incidentally, I was discussing Ranger Tugs on the dock this summer at Sucia. The gentleman mentioned Ranger used to make sailboats. I was not aware of this and so looked it up to see what I could find. Sure enough, I came across this site on the Ranger 26.

Not to be confused with the Jensen boat company and their family of Ranger sailboats. This Ranger 26 sounds like it was built at the Ranger factory in Kent.
