The Diesel engine I am most familiar with is the VW TDI. EPA ratings went from 53mpg to 46mpg when they added the multi injection injectors and pressure limiting sensor. MPG's came back up some with they went with the Diesel Exhaust Fluid treatment (urea). The DEF was able to reduced the NOx after combustion so they didn't have to eliminate it during the combustion, so they didn't have to reduce combustion pressures as much and the engines were more efficient. I don't remember what the MPG ratings were on the latest engines but I think the EPA ratings were in the 49-50 mpg range. Although I was getting 55 mpg with my TDI VW Passat that had the DEF treatment system.baz":21nf7nl9 said:Thanks Jim. How much loss in efficiency occurs ???????
