does anyone know if the hull roller is supposed to touch the hull (i have an ez load trailer) or is it there just to protect the boat when loading. also i do a lot of Mississippi river camping and we pull up to sandbars, does anyone have a recommendation for a good bow ladder or folding steps to bolt on the boat. thanks pat

Yes, the trailer bow roller should contact the hull. Steepness of the loading ramp will cause separation during loading process. Use search feature here and see "ranger bump" for discussions on this subject.

I read this question as Madisonwi asking about the roller that is under the bow, rather than the bow roller; maybe they can clarify.

I agree that the bow roller should contact the boat. But on our '21 R27, the roller that sits centered directly under the bow does not touch the hull when the boat is on the EZ Loader trailer.

thanks for the responses..yes its the roller under the hull (closest to the bow)..not the top roller where you lock in..
yes it looks from other pictures that, the hull doesn't rest on that roller but it acts as a guard for when you are driving on..

in august 2022 i towed boat back from california and was worried that would be a bounce point so we devised a "shipping pad" to place under it to help reduce the flexing and bouncing as that is a large span that goes unsupported from the main supports of the trailer.

sorry for the delay in response, new to forum and wasn't sure how to find my answers!

thanks

The roller you're referring to is at a forward trailer cross member meant to protect the hull keel during the launch/retrieval process at steeper ramps.

Pulling the boat forward firm to bow roller at winch stand should eliminate any boat bounce. Utilizing the "Ranger Bump" is very effective, facilitated by spraying wet bunks with Mary Kate Liquid Rollers prior to retrieval.

If road conditions are causing any boat bounce, using a racheting strap from forward cleats both sides at bow down to winch stand will help stabilize boat to trailer.

Hope this helps!
