We are interested in upgrading to the 43. Any comments good or bad would be appreciated.

We love ours. We've taken it to Alaska and found it very comfortable to live on.

There are a variety of videos regarding the R43 training and some of the places we've visited on our YouTube channel

We have one on order (R43S though). Obviously we can’t tell you much about using it but I’m very interested in what you learn, options you’re considering, and just general thoughts. We’re coming from an R25OB.

Good morning, Maggie. My wife and I are considering an R43CB for a Great Loop cruise and would love to hear about your experience with the boat. I've watched the videos on your channel. Thank you for those. I'm wondering if one of you might be willing to talk with me for a few minutes.

Michael, we have a few months of experience with ours now. Happy to chat with you too. Just send me a direct message and let me know if you’re interested.

We upgraded from a 2024 R29CB to a 2026 R43CB and would never go back. So much more room, storage, comfort, and it’s so easy to dock. We got ours with the seakeeper ride instead of the gyro and it works great. Curious if anyone else has thoughts on the seakeeper system if you have it.

The Seakeeper ride system is wonderful. We are thrilled we got it. We got the gyro too. We have used it twice and I kind of regret getting it actually.

Good morning, Jesperjo. I'm terribly sorry but it seems that I don't have the ability to send a direct message. Maybe because I'm a newbie forum member and haven't earned the privilege yet? Would you be so kind as to DM me? I'm hoping that might enable me to respond to your dm. Thanks in advance for the accommodation.

Michael

Hi Michael, As you can see from the other members, they really like the R43. Feel free to email or call. rhwhale@gmail.com or 208-920-3609

My only complaint about the 43 is that the aft fuel tank vent line seems like it’s too short so I get leakage from the vent every time. I’ve purchased a couple devices to mitigate that though and there’s several options for that problem. From what I’ve read on this forum that’s not a problem unique to the 43.

for sure. The forward tank vent doesn't spit at all but the aft tank does. Less if I fill more slowly. The vent minder is what I use.

I think all of us with the 43 have that issue. Diesel foams a lot and, volume wise, it seems to be able to expand to about 15 gallons in just a few seconds. Bob recommended https://cleanwayfuelfill.shop/products/clean-way-fuel-fill-10-baffle And in our experience it helps. However, what helps even more is a careful process.

Before we fill up we first calculate approximately how much fuel we will need, based on the Fuel Remaining counter, and divide by two. That allows the person doing the fueling to keep an eye on the pump and know approximately where we are. We then have the other person monitor the fuel gauges for each tank and we use the headsets to communicate that to the person fueling. We shut off the fueling when we are at 85% or within about 15 gallons/60 liters of where we think we need to be. We stop there and wait a few minutes. Generally, the fuel gauge will shoot up from 85 and come to rest around 94-95%. Then we carefully and slowly add the rest until we get to 100% but you will be adding many gallons/liters of fuel before the gauge even moves, so at this stage, do some quick math on how much is left (like “5% of 150 is 7.5 so I should be able to get about that much more in”) and then add about half that and stop and wait.

I didn’t come up with this process. It’s a synthesis of what others have described on the mailing list and here, but it seems to work pretty well.

Our forward tank itself spits. Perhaps the tank vent doesn’t, but the fill itself does. A lot, if you’re not careful!
