Ranger Tug service in the Seattle Area

We bought a Ranger Tug R31 a couple of years ago and are trying to find somewhere to get it serviced. We live in the Seattle area, and would be interested in either someone who would go to our location, or somewhere that we could go that is on Lake Washington.

Would anyone have any recommendations?

What service do you need? Pacific Power and Coastal Marine are both great for oil change, etc., and can travel to your location (and IIRC Coastal has a location inside the Ballard Locks). For other work, there might be other suggestions.

Thank you for that information, SJI Sailor, will check them out. Looking for something like a tune up or 100 hour service. We bought the boat over two years ago and have been so busy that we've barely used it. Hoping to retire soon and start using it a lot, but it's been sitting there neglected for awhile, and it probably needs someone to take a good look.

I have had good success with Seahawk Yacht Service. They have come to my boat in Gig Harbor to perform service work. 206-282-3500.

If it has been in the water for two years, I would suggest a haul out to do inspection with bottom cleaning, check zincs, and so forth. They could do engine service at the same time.

I am not sure who does inside the Locks, but CSR Ballard is one. Or there are many choices outside. I expect most boatyards will be very busy right now, so it might take a while to schedule. Mobile service from one of the previously listed folks could be good meanwhile if you want to start sooner.

Sweet Pea is moored at Elliot Bay Marina. We utilize Emerald City Diving (206-789-8000) for bottom inspection / servicing zincs, Coastal Marine Engine (206-784-3703) for Volvo Engine service (you need an authorized Volvo Service Center it read the engine computer codes), and Seaview Boatyard located in Shilshole Marina (206-783-6550) for haul-out /bottom painting.

I would second a prior recommendation for Pacific Power. Both Coastal and Pacific Power (the two Volvo dealers) seem equally (that is, highly) regarded, but Coastal quoted me $2500 for an annual service and Pacific Power just did the same work under $1700. Both will come to wherever your boat is in the greater Seattle area, just charge you for the travel (much more reasonable than it sounds).

For an actual haul out and general work, CSR seems to be very widely considered the best yard in town. I’ve been working with Nigel (one of the service managers there) on and off for ten years and he is helpful, honest, and reasonable (referring me elsewhere when it’s a job like refrigeration that CSR tends not to do). Miller and Miller is good for refrigeration and systems; Pacific Fiberglass is where I would go for any damage or hull repair.

CSR absolutely allows outside contractors into their yard. Your engine can be worked on by Pacific Power or Coastal while hauled at CSR. I believe they also allow a wide range of outside contractors.

Canal boatyard is also very well regarded, but it’s more of a DIY yard where you pay them to haul and block and others to fix your boat or DIY (though I think they do have some services on site).

I wouldn’t take my boat to anywhere else. There are some really shady yards inside the locks and lots of horror stories if you talk to other boaters...

Thank you all, that is some very good information! We will definitely only go to one of these businesses. It sounds like it's not cheap, so we may as well get it done competently.

Having used both I prefer pacific power over coastal.

I use La conner maritime now up in la conner

For zinc diving I use double j diving.
