Raymarine Software Updates

If you have a Raymarine Multifunction Display (aka chartplotter), there is a software update that has come out. It is version 5.04 and can be downloaded off of the Raymarine website. The website has clear directions how to upload the software onto your unit. If you do not know your software version off the top of your head, it is found on the navigation warning screen that is displayed when you first boot up the system.

BE CAREFUL!! If you have radar and no heading data source (ex. autopilot, Smart Heading System, ST60 Compass, etc.), the radar will not overlay over the charts anymore in the new version. The old version can also use GPS to determine heading and, therefore, radar orientation. A nice chunk of change is required to get a heading data source as defined (~ $400-$1000 +). If you have a 'heading data source' it looks like a really good upgrade.
