I have just purchased a 2011 Ranger Tug 21ec and everything appears in order. However, the swim grid has been removed from the boat and I would like to re-attach it. I have the swim grid and the two S.S. bottom supports. I assume that the these supports are screwed rather than bolted in place since I can't see how to reach inside to tight a bolt. Can anyone confirm this? Also, if the supports are screwed to the hull any information on the size of the screws would be very helpful. The holes have been plugged with what looks like an epoxy filler. Thank you in advance. Michael Clark, Nanaimo, B.C.

Hi Micheal, With the use of my phone camera I just confirmed that on my 2014, they are bolts with nylock nuts on the inside. I’m guessing that you would have to remove the fuel tank to access the inside or have skinny arms.

After a few more checks I believe you will be able to do this without removing the tank. I was able to reach the top bolts above the tank and you should be able to reach the bottom bolts through the inspection hatches in the floor in front of the tank. ( Assuming your 2011 is set up the same as my 2014)

Thank you for this. I will check out your suggestion of reaching the bottom bolts through the inspection ports. Failing that I guess I will have to remove the tank. It looks to me that the bottom bolts are 1/4 inch and the top ones are 5/16 inch diameter. I will let you know how I make out.

Thought I would give you and update on this project. One of the previous owners removed the swim grid and mounted the swim ladder and an adjustable outboard motor bracket to the stern. Unfortunately, gobs of 3M 5200 were used as the sealant making it impossible to put a wrench on the nuts to remove these items. 5200 is more of an adhesive than a bedding compound and where ever it is used it is essentially permanent. Even if I get the nuts off I am doubtful about getting the bolts off and fearful that the sealant on the outside of the transom will damaging the gel coat. So, I have given up. If I renew re-attaching the swim grid I think I am advised to take it to the professionals.
