Hi All,
I have been looking at moving the radio from behind the helm wheel to the open storage space above is this plausible has anyone done this and able to help me with what is required to do this job?
Cheers

I know that there's some photos of folks who have relocated the VHF radio to above the helm station with some nice cabinetry, but I found it much easier to just add a second VHF radio to that space, and put a second antenna on the port side of the boat.

Another option is to angle the radio in its current location. I have bifocals and have difficulty focusing on the small screen when it is above my head. Tilting the radio (in it's current location behind the wheel) makes it easy to read and use. There are pictures of the radio modification in my album.

Another option is a remote mic. It has the display in it and you can hold it right up to your face. I installed it and it works fine for me. A bit of a cost, but it saved me all the work of relocation.

I kinda did all the above. I mounted a new Standard Horizon radio on top of the helm, as its size was too large for the existing hole. I also installed the remote mic in the glove box on the port side of the cabin, that way I can get someone to handle radio duties. I mounted the emergency VHF antenna I carry, to the old radio and its propped up inside the helm station. Now I can see the radio easily rather than tilting my progressive glasses up and down..... and a backup radio ready to go. Standard Horizon 2200 and 1500.

UPDATE 3/11
Just click the album button to the right to see pics of the install

I had our radio moved to hang below the overhead shelving. I didn't want to take the shelf space away. Much better location and doesn't block my view. For a backup we just carry a handheld on board.
Here's a photo.

Check owner modifications page 2 "annoying problems on r25" if this is about poor reAdibilty and access to radio

All done was easy after taking time to think and work out the best way to do it now making a storage area from where the radio came 🙂
