Looking to mount a rear facing camera on my Rt29, which I can view on my IPad while under way or
Docking.

What models are people using?
Do. You have to wire For power?

Thanks
Joe

I'm very much interested in the replies to this post for our pending R29S.

I have a rear camera I installed on my boat, I used a car back up camera photos of it is in my album, we also have a camera in our big horse trailer to keep track of the animals, that one is a wireless one.
They do need power for the cameras wether wireless or hard wired to monitor. Bob

Dashcams work great. Simply stick on rear window and supply 12v power via USB charging port. Download the app to your device and wirelessly connect to the camera, also records to a memory card. Most have live view feature...

Here's a Garmin unit as an example: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Key-Sized ... R22DV?th=1

I use a Garmin 360 camera. A bit of overkill but i use it for other purposes. It is mounted on the back awning frame but can be moved anywhere. There is also a screenshot of the chartplotter view. It syncs well with the chartplotter and can also sync to ipad. Very clear. Can switch from front view to back on chartplotter.
Mine is not wired as it uses battery power and boats wifi.
Batteries only last about 2 1/2 hours if you have it on constantly so i always have a spare charging.

Does this Garmin camera/app flip the image horizontally? That is needed to use it rear facing.

I use one of the simple license plate backup cameras. It just uses 12 volts and creates its own WiFi network that I connect to with my iPad. Only about $30! My only complaint is the aspect ratio nor zoom is not adjustable. Since it is designed to work with a smart phone the aspect ratio is a bit squished on the iPad.

Having tried several less expensive rear view cameras on our Airstream Travel Trailer, I have been very satisfied with the Furrion Vision S FOS05TASF 5 inch Sharkfin Camera Wireless RV Backup System with Infrared Night Vision and Wide Viewing Angle, and plan to install the 7” monitor version for multiple cameras on our new R31S. This is a wireless (12v power required) continuous observation system of very high quality. A dedicated monitor is my preference, as my iPad is often in use with an alternate navigation app. The integrated security motion alarm and sound pickup are desirable features for me.

The Furrion Vision S FOS05TASF sounds like a great unit and has IR capabilities. It’s is not comparable
With the IPad, so I would use its monitor At the helm.

I’m think about mounting the rear camera above the rear navigation light, easy access to 12v.
Anyone come across something hardware to stack devices, as for this application .

Thanks

The old Garmin VIRB cameras are plug n play wireless with my 7612 chart plotter on my 2016. I am using one as a bu camera with reverse image.

Where do you have the camera mounted?

I have a Garmin VIRB as well and was using it with my iPad but without reverse image (a problem!). I can find no way to reverse the image in the VIRB setup. Is it done by your 7612? Unfortunately, I have a 7212 which has no VIRB interface as far as I know.

It s mounted on rear cover over the cockpit to pilot house door. Seasucker. Reverse image setting is directly on the 7612.

Great thanks. Is the rear camera helpful, when underway to see any of the traffic behind you?

The rear camera will not take the place of radar to detect the idiot commuting up from behind you doing 30 knots in the fog! On a nice clear day it's great and coming into port watching for that boat trying to pass you it will help. The rear facing camera is just another tool to help but it does have it's limitations.
