We replaced the Garmin AIS 300 with the Vesper XB8000 for transmit and receive. Easy install. The advantage of the Vesper, besides transmitting, is that it has a superior warning algorithm. The Garmin chart plotter constantly warns us of close vessels that we have already passed or are tied up in marinas or anchored. That is very distracting. The Vesper, on the other hand, provided a list on their app on our iPhone of all the targets available ranked in priority of which ones we should be most concerned with, i.e. the moving targets we are getting closer to. That is the information that is important to you.
