Hey Tugnut Friends!

My wife and I are looking at a relocation (for work) to Portland Oregon, from New England. We currently have an R-29, in Narragansett Bay -- spending time in the bay, and out to MV, Newport, Nantucket, Block Island, etc. Currently members at the Rhode Island Yacht Club. We spend almost every weekend from May-Oct. on the boat.

Curious as to what the boating is like in Portland (Columbia River?), any marina's to check out, yacht clubs, etc. Any thoughts from other Ranger owners?

We'll be in town this weekend looking at the area, would love recommendations of Marina's and/or Yacht Clubs to check out.

Apprecaite the help and advice!
Gus

Good morning, Gus!

We have been enjoying our R25 on the Columbia River from Portland, OR, since August 2013 and would be delighted to talk to you. We are sending you PM.

Thanks Lenny and Louise!! Look forward to hearing more.

Gus

We do not live in Portland but have spent a lot of time on our R27 on the Columbia River. We've docked at Salpare Marina a couple of times and like it. There dockage prices are reasonable, new and you have access to a pool and hot tub. Yacht Clubs on the Columbia range from Columbia River Yacht Club on Hayden Island, a really really nice facility, the Portland Yacht Club and Tyee Yacht Club, both on Marina Drive off of the Columbia River. Let us know what you find and decide.

Thanks Jim -- Appreciate the guidance.

We have a R-29 at St Helens Marina on the Columbia, 1 hr downriver from Portland. Glad to help.
Contact me at dpiano@hevanet.com. I'm a New Englander too.
Cheers

One other consideration might be to look north to Olympia, WA. Olympia is just a 120 mile 2 hour drive from downtown Portland. Olympia is on the South Puget Sound and is the southern gateway to pretty much everywhere in the PNW.

Hi Gus,
We are in Eugene, but have our boat on a trailer. If you are planning on putting it in Washington for a while, make sure you know the tax law concerning boats with Oregon owners in Washington State (there is often sales tax issues if you keep it there for longer periods of time). PM me if you want my rundown on what we experienced.
Glad you chose the Pacific NW, it is a great place. And you can still boat in Newport, just a little smaller Newport than you are accustomed to.
Jeff
