Looking for some opinions on boat monitoring products on the market today (Boat Command, Nautic Alert etc.). Debating between getting one of these vs. going DYI. Anyone willing to share a good or bad experience with any of these products?

I don't have any advice for you except there are several threads on this if you can get the search function to work.

Yeah, I found some threads from 2018 and older, but this tech stuff tends to age quickly. Will search again to see if there is anything newer.

I’m looking into Garmin OnDeck, which integrates nicely with all the other Garmin stuff.

Has anybody installed the OnDeck?

I'm looking at it compared to a full AIS + vessel monitoring upgrade with the Cortex M1.

Does the Cortex play well with the other Garmin systems?

I've got the Nautalert system. Did the install myself (on a C28). Not too painful. They were the cheapest system I found and have been mostly satisfied with the product. You could save money forgoing the cel based monitoring and go wifi only if your marina has good wifi. I'm leery of that option as I want to know if my boat loses shore power and no shore power = no marina power = no wifi. The customer service is excellent. I'm in Maryland by Annapolis and they have come to my boat multiple times to solve hardware/firmware hiccups. They are advertising N2K soon.

I decided to go with a less expensive option since we don’t experience extreme cold temps in northern GA. I installed Govee WiFi temperature/humidity sensors which I can access remotely. They also log the info so if WiFi is temporarily lost, I still have access to the history. I also use TOPGREENER WiFi enabled switches that monitor watts used. I can login to check the status of power supplied on the boat. I have my two TwinHornet heaters hooked up to those. One in the engine compartment and one on the boat. I purchased the TwinHornets without a thermometer as I’ve installed external thermometers which provides me with greater latitude in how I use the heaters. I don’t want to run the heat pump when I’m not on the boat in case a water line becomes dislodged which could cause the boat to flood easily.

Not full proof but works for my needs and less expensive.
