Removal of Mace IS 2.5 Generator for Repair

Hi, The Mace IS 2.5 Generator on my 2010 Ranger R25 has to come out for repair - is there a written procedure to remove and replace?

Are the control wires just cut and spliced? or is there a plug/socket?

How about the 120V power line?


I know about the fuel and return lines - fairly easy. I also know about the power to the starter.

Is there an alternate brand that fits should my Mace not be repairable for a reasonable price? This unit is no longer imported due to EPA regulations.

Could you please email me directly with the generator information? We have never installed a 5.1 in the R25 so maybe something that was done outside of the factory?

I’m struggling to remove my Mace IS 2.5 Generator from my 2010 Ranger R25. I can only reach two of four engine belt bolts.

The engine cents on a fiberglass box like thing. There are two brackets on the Stern and that I can remove easily.

Anyone know what holds the bow of the generator platform in place? If I can’t figure it out I’m gonna snap it off with a forklift so I can get the generator out of the boat.

I took my generator out of my 2008 R25. I could not access the bolts holding the generator to the box so I just unscrewed the box from the floor of the boat and the whole box just came with the generator as I lifted it out of the boat with a chain hoist. Hope that helps.

I took the screws holding the base out and lifted it out. No problem, bot the marina operator said our contract prohibited generator work, and evicted me. There must be more to the story, bot I don’t know what I did wrong.

Thanks for the advice! Throwing it,, at 163 pounds, isn't exactly possible - but it is ready for working.

It needs rings, possible a piston, and likely crank and main bearings because the problem most likely occurred from overheat/overload.

The good news is that Mace will rebuild it at a reasonable cost - they are wonderful to deal with and local. I've never dealt with more cooperative or knowledgable people.

The bad news is the Marina where the Shearwater lives doesn't permit boaters to work on Diesels - who would know after more than a year of being there and seeing several outboards be rebuilt by owners,

They evicted me.

Anyway, I'm slipless now - looking for a place to slip or dry stack the Shearwater. To bad, just yesterday a potential slip renter came by and asked me about the marina - I gave them a glowing and honest recommendation: clean, safe, family owned and run, and very friendly and convenient.

Normally, when I really like working with a company over years, they like having me around - I pay my bills the day I get them, tip appropriately, and keep my boat polished, clean, and generally out of the way.

Go figure.

Odd how they reacted. I could see if you persistently broke a rule, but to tell you to get out on an initial violation seems very odd. Must be that Italian generator!! :lol:

I would start a boycott of that marina with signs that say "Diesel Lives Matter!!" 😀

Who knows. I did lots of odds and ends repair, most of the boats never moved. For a dry stack, I was extra work.
