I've been working on the galley faucet on my R27. It's pretty well gunked up with white, sticky, sandy residue. The finish of the whole unit, and especially the spray head, is unsightly. I'd like to replace it. It appears the easiest way to access the faucet hold down hardware and plumbing will be to remove the sink (and maybe I'll replace that as well). The sink looks like it is held in place with sealant. My planned approach for removal is to work a sharp putty knife under the edge and work it around. Anybody ever done this? Am I making a mistake?

You can pretty much remove most of the faucet from the top. If it were me. I would order a new faucet head from Ranger. Or if you have to order a new faucet I would use what you need and save the rest. I would then dismantle the faucet and clean out the guts and the outer bottom stainless piece and then install the new head. Where is this white gunky residue you are speaking of? Is it just on the outside or is it in the guts? If the back flow check valve is still in I would remove it. That you need to do from the bottom. Use a stubby Phillips head screwdriver, loosen the screw and then pull the flex hose off. The back flow preventer is a small plastic piece that can be pulled out with tweezers.
As far as the actual sink goes; it will look great when first installed, but after a year it will look like what you will have removed.

Bill:

I have a spare used faucet that I can send you that isn't junked up like the one you have. When I first started to have faucet clogging 5 years ago the servicing remedy was not widely known and the factory sent me a new one, this is why I have a spare. I'll drop it into the mail this week for you.

Perfect. I'll look for it.
