The Ritchie compass on my 2014 R31S has lost about 1/2 it's fluid. I'd like to remove it and refill it and inspect it for leaks. I looked it over and it has two plastic pins on the side. I removed these but it won't separate from the base. How is it supposed to be removed. I don't want to remove the ceiling mouse fur panel in the vee berth unless I have to.
Thanks

Check the plastic cover of the compass for crazing.

Our 2015 RT31 compass had lost about 1/3 of the fluid through the cracks caused by crazing.
In our case, there was no point in adding fluid as the surface crazing would continue to allow evaporation of the fluid.

I subsequently had a canvas cover made to cover the new compass when we are not using the boat.

The unit is a Ritchie S-87 Voyager surface mount compass.
I got my replacement compass at Hodges Marine online.

A link to the removal and mounting instructions of various compasses, including the S-87, can be found at: https://www.hodgesmarine.com/amfile/fil ... uct/34441/
