Removing screws from the hull

I have to remove the base plate for the mast due to a broken hinge. I am wondering if the screws are screwed into a threaded plate that is glassed into the roof, or nut plates glassed into the roof or are wood screws used and screwed into the fiberglass? I also have to replace broken screws that hold the swim platform, and wondering the same about those screws. Is the baseplate for the mast available as a replacement part? It is a side swing, 2007 R25.

I guess we are on our own! I will be taking the mast plate off and removing the swim platform screws in about 3 weeks. I will report my findings!

Rick, I just returned from a visit back to our old home in Fairbanks, AK and catching up on several of the posts before taking the tug over to the Erie Canal for a weeks cruise. Regarding the swim platform, we have a model year '09 R25 classic and the swim platform is mounted to the brackets using SS machine screws (phillips head) and lock nuts. Look on underside of platform and you should see the lock nuts, I think 4 per bracket. Just a word of caution, I removed my platform last year to install SeaDek covering and trying to realign bolts to bracket was interesting. Not sure how the '07 platform is attached. My mast assembly is the side drop (port side) style vs forward drop, and, again if I recall correctly it is also bolt and nut attached directly into the raised section running from stack forward. Spotlight also mounted on this section. I would suggest a call to Kenny (or Andrew) to confirm.

I suggest phoning Andrew or Kenny. Just a reminder, they have been involved in the annual Rendezvous which was held this past weekend. They are probably still catching their collective breaths. I'd also like to know more about how things are mounted to the raised centerpiece on the roof of the "classics".

Hello Rick,

The base plate is thru bolted. You'll need to remove the stack to access the nuts. I suggest taking the mast off then unscrewing the stack.

The swim step also have thru bolts for hardware.

Sorry for the delay but as Joe said we just finished the Rendezvous and moved into the Boats a Float show the same evening.
