Hello Tug Nutters - I am new to this having recently purchased a 2020 R29 CB LE. I am in the Annapolis area and informed by my mechanic (to my surprise) that my original batteries will don't last more than 6-7 years and all will need to be replaced likely in the next year or so and I should get ahead of a problem and replace them before failing. We thought we had an engine start dead battery so he spent 90 min while I watched struggling to get all these batteries disconnected and out to check their status cursing and swearing at who designed the lack of access to these...I agreed!
But turns out it's wasnt a bad battery but a loose ground wire to the engine! So they all had to laboriously all go back in. However he mentioned these are old style factory supplied AGM lead acid 33amp, 110ah batteries by Universal with unusual tombstone posts off to the sides with bolt thru connectors.
So my question is what do the experts recommend putting back in there when I replace them all? Mechanic says don't need AGM's and get ones much cheaper with standard round posts like auto batteries. I want to do it once the right way and invest in the right product. Would be great if I had a later model with lithium but not going to spend that kinda money to upgrade.
Sorry for the long winded question!
