While the idea of a pivoting bench in the aft cockpit of my R-29 is good on the surface, it really isn't much good practically. With a dinghy back there on Weaver davits (or even any other kind of davit), I have no reason to pivot the seat to face back. Now that I'm trying to get an aft cockpit enclosure made for my boat, I see it as a barrier to fully enclosing the area.

Is there any way to replace it with a seat that doesn't pivot? I'd really like a seat like the side seats that fold flat against the side of the cockpit. Is that doable? Has anyone done it? Does anyone from the factory want to weigh in on this?

if its like the one on the 28 its pretty simple to unbolt. the question is what to put in its place as it will likely need to be custom.

you probably have found this, but what I do at anchor is lay the dinghy down on the weaver davits and then switch the seat around. I wouldn't use the seat facing backward when underway even if the dinghy wasn't there as it seems a little exposed.

Yes, I took a look at the attachment points and agree it would be easy enough to just remove. I honestly have no need for that seat to ever face backward. I wish that seat was like my side seats and folded flush against the side of the wall. (I’m also VERY happy that I don’t have pop-out side seats like some models do.)

Surely there must be some company that makes solutions like this for Ranger Tugs?

After cruising in my boat for nearly 6 months straight in most kinds of weather, conditions, docking, and anchoring situations, I like about 95% of its design elements/features. But that other 5% is driving me insane.
