I'm having issues with the headmate on my R25. It won't pump up flushing water and even when it works it's way too hard for wife and guests to flush. Replacing with the Raritan PHC BLA kit sounds good. Anyone done it and if so, we're there any unforeseen problems.

My Headmate originally installed in the R-25's is junk. Even after rebuilding, the head refused to function normally, or even marginally. I talked to the Factory boys and they recommended Jabsco 29090-3000 Marine Manual Marine Twist and Lock Toilet . Bought it at West Marine while visiting Anacortes. Installation took 1 hour and it works great!
The mounting holes did not line up, so I had to drill new holes in the base (no biggy). All the hoses fit, so no major refitting. EASY

I replaced ours with a Raritan PHII Hi-Boy Manual Marine Toilet. I, too, had to drill new holes for mounting. I also had to drill a hole to re-route the supply line. This model has a "residential-size" bowl, which we particularly like. 🙂 It took a couple of hours, but was well worth the time and effort. An electric pump can be added in the future, but it works fine for us as is.

We have a Raritan Elegance. Plumbed for raw water, but capable of being set up to use pressured water from the holding tank. Highest rating for its class by Practical Sailor. We love it. No problems to date (but our boat is relatively new and the head has seen only light use).

Sounds like I am not the only one who has been disatisfied with the original factory enstalled HEADMATE.
Purchased my 2007 Ranger tug 25, a year ago. Previous owners never used the toilet. Always at a marina.
After overhauling the old toilet twice, both times short lived repair, I recently replaced it with a RARITAN SEA ERA Sea water Model with integral electric pump. Works beautifully. Purchased at West Marine. New mounting hole locations, enlarged hole for 1 1/2" drain and supply, and electrical wires. Mounted the push button switch on panel just below sink.

Bob, the Sea Era is what the factory was installing last year in R-27s. It's a good choice -- great reputation for reliability. You should be happy.

You may also look at the Tecma Easyfit macerating toilet, this is what is in the R29 and have been retrofitted for our R27, we are very happy with it and have encountered no issues.
