Replacement LED bulb for the anchor light

Sorry, my search skills are poor. anyone got a spec for the anhcor light? RT 25SC. Or a west marine part number?

So the r25 is the sane as the r27?
 
Just a heads up from personal experience. My masthead light conked out on me on a night trip on San Francisco Bay week before last (Giants game!). Nav lights still worked fine. When I got back to the dock I decided to replace it with my spare. No luck. The spare would not work, either. It also struck me as odd that an LED would go so quickly (only three years old).

Next day the handy multi-meter got pressed into service to find the problem. Turns out that the ground wire (white in this case) had worked itself loose from the male fitting that screws into the roof of the cockpit. This was easy to check and the screw in assembly disassembles easily (leave it screwed in and unscrew the cover). Given how much we raise and lower the mast, I am not surprised that this worked loose. It also appears to be a pretty wet fitting so I taped it up real good to make sure it is real hard to fix next time.

I placed an order with Marine Beam and never got anything. No product, no charge, etc.
so I just went to West Marine and bought the traditional kind:

Anchor Brand Festoon End Caps 10 watts .74

they had the fancier ones, but I rarely run at night and don't anchor much.......
 
Did you call Jeff when the part did not arrive?
He started out as a boater who wanted a better light for his own boat and the business grew from there.
So he knows the aggravation of not having your boat work when you want it.
If you are happy, then (shrug)
But I do not want to go back to incandescent bulbs on the mast - or any where else in the boat other than the search light.
And even that will change in the near future
We are beginning to replace incandescent lights on our tractors because the LED lights are brighter and whiter.

Anyone know if the Ranger 27 Nav and anchor light part numbers will work for Cutwater 28?
 
I believe Marinebeam also has a photo cell for the anchor light.
 
Are these replacement bulbs of similiar brightness or are they in fact brighter ? Do LED bulbs maintain their brightness over time ?
 
The bulbs are of similar if not more light. They do give a little bit of a different glow than an incandescent. I have not experienced them dimming over time. If I remember correctly I ordered warm white and I am satisfied with the ambiance.
I replaced the anchor light, but kept the nav lights as incandescent. I figured I would only be using those while the engine is running so there won't be a drain on the batteries.
 
I thought the purpose of replacing with led is longevity not power consumption for the nav lights. While the nav lights on the tugs are probably easy to replace unlike they were on my sailboat, the inconvenience to perform that task in a critical time like inclement weather while crossing a shipping line in the dark may just call for LEDs.

And lamps have just have this tendency to fail just when you need them or before being boarded by coast guard or similar Murphy rules 🙂
 
The LED will last longer, but they do go out. I actually had my anchor light (LED) go out because of corrosion on the contacts So I still had to get up there and fix it. My main purpose for switching to LED was power consumption, not longevity. I think the longevity aspect is great, but more of a marketing ploy to justify the higher price, more than the convenience of not changing a bulb. Quite frankly if my nav light went out at night I don't think I would be out there changing it for safety sake. Also, I doubt I would even know it was out. When I flew my plane and it went out it was impossible to do it and I just had to keep flying.

Ok I replaced my nav lights with the 42mm festoons from marinebeam. much better.

alas I have a hellamarine anchor light on the cutwater? do we all? it has a much shorter bulb. I think its the SV8.5 but I am not certain. Anybody know the hellamarine anchor light bulb type? unless I have a different anchor light installed by the previous owner??
