Replacing Autopilot Pump

Curious what others have been charged for a checkvalve install

2014 R27 Classic. Had the same problem. Garmin replaced the pump under warranty first. No go, (i,.e., A new 1.2 pump is not a solution). The factory sent me a check valve kit. I installed the check valve myself and bled the system. The steering has worked perfectly for 4 years now. Completely solved the problem.

The above is a Godsend of info…
thank you !!
My boat is 11 years old but I will try calling Garmin and see what they say about discounts, etc.
I just installed new Garmin’s, AIS, Radar, etc and I would like to get the Rudder position working…
I’ll report back for future Steer LF inductees…

It can be tricky to fully bleed the autopilot pump without a power purge system but it can be done. If you install the check valve yourself and have difficulty purging the pump send me a private message and I’ll walk you through what I did.

Thank you very much RRaven... appreciate the offer.
Garmin Marine is closed (phone) until Monday, will try them then.

I sea trialed and the manual steering is about 75% better… I am guessing the last 25% is prop walk. It was a wicked windy day.

I had to run a whole new nmea2k system for my rudder indicator and get a gateway adapter to connect it to the boat system. And now you have a component on your boat that is less likely to fail.
I am struggling right now getting a Garmin rudder indicator installed on a 2019 R 29. Can you tell me more about your situation and the symptoms of a problem that you were having with the Rudder indicator? We've spent more than eight hours total on the phone with Garmin and are getting nowhere.

I believe this thread is focused on the issues with the steering and the autopilot steering pump but there are a few threads dealing with the rudder indicator issues on the site. One I found by using the search engine actually has a video of an install of an aftermarket rudder indicator. I have posted it below with a link to the video. There are also other threads dealing with the Garmin rudder indicator as well.
I hope this helps!
Terry
Try typing in "Rudder indicator" into the search box at the right top of the page by clicking on the magnifying glass.
