A white overhead light in the headliner positioned over the walkway between the table and sink is inop. The light is one of the series that are turned on/off with the switch by the door to the cockpit. I think the bulb is bad. The light has a gold trim ring. How is that trim ring detached from the fixture? Does it screw off or does it snap on/off. I’ve messed with it some, but haven’t gotten it to budge.

The trim rings have a small indentation that snap onto the piece secured to the overhead. Very gently pry them off if you can’t twist and pull at the same time. Be careful not to puncture the overhead material. The rings are plastic and fragile.

i pry mine off with a couple of finger nails on either side. no need for tools.

i have noticed sometimes a led bulb will sometimes lose contact with the electrical contacts and a light tap on the lens gets the bulb working again.

if you are still using incandescent for these bulbs - absolutely change them for LED. http://www.marinebeam.com is your friend

Others have explained removing the trim. Assuming you have the fixtures that take a standard G4 bulb you can get LED replacements on Amazon for a fraction of the cost of a marine store. I think I paid $15 for a pack of 10 bulbs and replaced them all at one time.

Greetings. This is my first post. I am planning to move from sail to power. Regarding LED bulbs, there is a recent US Coast Guard warning dealing with RF interference from some LED bulbs. Here is a link to that USCG notice:

I was alerted to this by a thread on Cruisers Forum, another very useful resource. Here is a link to that thread:

As you see, the problem seems to come largely from inexpensive LED bulbs. The higher quality bulbs, sold by reputable marine suppliers, are a safer bet.

I hope this is helpful.

Thanks to all for a great forum.

Here’s how the ceiling light trim rings work as installed in my 2012 R27: The trim rings are a bayonet style that will pop off easily after a quarter turn. If they haven’t been removed in a while, the problem is getting them to turn. I used a narrow stiff putty knife to work around the edge of the trim ring to break the seal between the trim ring and the vinyl headliner material. Once that was done, the trim rings turned easily and popped off.
