I will be replacing the 12x17” hatch just forward of the CB port side, on my 2017 R29, due to broken glass. Anyone ever done, easy/hard , tools required?

Thanks

I'll be replacing the exact same hatch on our R23 due to a broken hinge.

I ordered the replacement through Great Lakes Skipper and received it yesterday. The install looks pretty straight forward. Here's my plan of attack; remove the existing hatch, the top portion only using a putty knife. Continue to use the bottom frame, no need to remove. Clean the roof surface of all adhesive or bedding material. Use a caulking gun to lay down a generous bead of 3m 4000 UV. Clean up any extra bedding material. Screw in and let it dry.

That's the plan, I'll let you know if it's as easy as I made it sound.

If they still do it the same, no caulk needed. There is a strip of EPDM around the perimeter. Just lift the hatch out, clean the surface and set in place. I think the unit comes with the strip. If not it can be purchased at home depot in the isle that sells weather strip.

Good info Knotflying. I just received a brand new hatch and it did not come with EPDM. I haven't heard of EPDM before. Can you give me more details on the correct EPDM tape to buy? Thank you.

I’m thinking mine might be even easier, since it’s only the top part of the hatch with broken glass that I have to replace? Is the top part screwed to the hatch frame?

No, the top and bottom frame are not attached. It is NOT screwed to to the bottom frame. I only need the top as well. That's why I said in my first post to leave the bottom frame as is. No need to remove.

I have a broken hinge (dowel?) on my port hatch. Can I fix this or do I really need to buy a whole new hatch?? I can see the metal dowel inside the hole but can’t get it out, or even imagine how it would stay in place even if I could

Can you drill it out with exact size drill bit? Or perhaps try to contact the manufacturer and see what they say.

A drill bit will just push it in further. Still not even sure how that dowel stays in place and locks in on the other side even if I could get it out. I emailed Richard at RT about it yesterday, he’s out for a week but hoping someone else will shed some light. Thanks.
