Dear Cutwater owners, I have to ask if anyone have difficulty to remove the rear bilge pump which sit under the prop shaft, I cannot remove the bilge pump unless I disconnected the shaft but my boat is moored in the water, I don't think it is a good idea to disconnect it if it might slip to the bottom of the marina. Any suggestion will be greatly appreciated. Attached photo in Photo Albums... Thanks

Is the pump running when you turn it on from the helm switch? If it does run it might be clogged with oily sediment. It might be possible to clear it if this is the case.

I cannot answer your question but will add that if it runs when using the manual switch but not automatically you should look for the second fuse that only is on the automatic wiring. Perhaps you have already done all this and it is just a bad pump but thought I would throw it out there to consider,

I just changed my rear bilge pump. For the RT25SC the float switch and pump need to be separated and the shaft coupling needs to be rotated to provide the maximum space on the starboard side of the shaft. Then with some wiggle of the pump it can then be removed. An option is that you can disassemble the pump and then reassemble once you have it in position. I hope on the Cutwater you can reach the bottom of the bilge easier than on the Ranger Tug. My biggest problem is finding someone strong enough to hold me upside down by my feet while I replace the pump.

Looking at the photo I see you have a tight fit for pump removal with the dripless gland. There is also a split coupling being used for the shaft that may be bigger than the factory installed coupling. To say the pump can be removed without removing the shaft would be your call. I know with the standard packing gland and the standard coupling it can but it is still a PIA. The pump cartridge itself can be removed without removing the housing. This will reduce the area needed to clear the shaft.

1. Lift tab and rotate the two fins in a counter clockwise direction and lift out.
2. To reinstall, first make sure that the seal is properly located. Coat the seal with a
light film of vegetable oil or mineral oil, then align the two cams on either side of the power cartridge with the two slots in the outer housing. Press down and twist in a clockwise rotation. To ensure that the power cartridge is properly located, twist fins in a counter clock-wise direction without lifting tab.
Cartridge should stay in place.

Thank you for all your replies, I have successfully removed the old bilge pump and replaced with a new one, and now I can sleep soundly at night. Thank you all your suggestions. Cheers
