Replacing R21EC skylights with white hatches

I own a 2009 Ranger R-21 EC. The A/C does not keep up to the Florida Sun so I want to replace the clear tinted skylights with white hatches. Does anyone know who makes these hatches? Or do you know another hatch manufacturer offering the same size plain white hatches?

Sure would be easier to put some kind of sun shade or filtering covering in there than replacing the hatches.... A lot cheaper too, those hatches are not free!!

Thank you for the good suggestion Charlie. Do you know of any ready made shades that will fit R21EC?
 
Here is the website of who makes these hatches. http://www.gotohmg.com/ If you call there contact # and ask for Brenda, you can order 12X17 sun shades that clip into the hatches just like the screens do. They run about $20.00 each. If she has a problem letting you order direct then please feel free to contact me and I can order them for you.

Are there sunshades available for the r25 hatches also?

Yes sir. You use a 16x16 sunshade except in the head which is a 12X17. Pretty easy solution and they work well!

I spoke with Brenda yesterday morning about ordering sun/privacy screens. At that point she had the ones I needed in stock. She had me email her my address and other info so that she could invoice and ship them.

At the time she was having a hectic Monday morning. I haven't heard from her, figured I'd give her a day or so to catch up and then call to confirm everything is OK.

My suggestion to Tug N Hug was canvas covers over the hatches, which have a couple of advantages over screens clipped to the inside of the hatch:

1. The hatch glass and frame are protected from the sun, meaning they will last longer.

2. A cover on the inside will create a tiny greenhouse between the cover and the hatch lid, making things like the hatch gasket get very hot in the sun, again aging faster.

3. That greenhouse will be hot, and will leak heat into a cabin more than with a covered hatch, making life harder for the air conditioner.

On the other hand, I would imagine the clip in covers are less expensive and would last longer than canvas covers.
 
I think Tom Ray makes some valid points.

I received the privacy/sun(?) screens for my R-21 EC today. The frames appear to be the same as for the bug screens. The fabric is black and thin. I suspect it won't hold up under the summer sun in Georgia. Of course it could be sunlight resistant and bulletproof. I'm more inclined to think they're really for privacy, not sun screening.

One thought I've had is to cover either the bug screens or the new scrrens with aluminum foil, leave the hatches in their vent position and see how that works. It may help eliminate the greenhouse condition Tom Ray mentions. Maybe not.

What I really think I'll do is have covers made for the hatches and the side windows to match the covers that came with the tug.
