Has anyone out there replaced their Seaward 6 gallon hot water tank with the Isotemp Spa 20?
I understand the factory is now installing the Isotemp Spa tanks as standard in new Ranger Tugs.
The major differences between the 6 gallon Seaward and the 5.3 gallon Isotemp Spa seem to be:
o Tank material - Seaward is aluminum vs stainless for Isotemp Spa
o Size - 13x13x19 for Seaward vs 12x12x23 for Isotemp Spa
o Power draw - Seaward is 1,500 watts vs 750 watts for Isotemp Spa
o Hose location - Seaward models have heat exchanger ports on either front or rear vs Isotemp Spa has all hoses in front
o Price - $383 for Seaward vs $510 for Isotemp Spa (both at Defender.com)

Our Seaward HWH is doing just fine but it’s almost 2 years past it’s 10 year MTBF. So, if the Seaward goes I’m considering the Isotemp Spa as a replacement. I think I could physically fit the Isotemp Spa in the space taken by the Seaward even though it’s 3.5” longer. My Seaward HWH seems to have the heat exchanger ports on the rear. Curious as to the difficulty of the change between the two units.

Edited with additional info on my specific model of Seaward HWH in the R25 Classic.

I replaced my heater with the Isotherm Spa on my last boat. Good unit... and what is nice is they come stock with a mixing valve so you can better limit top temperature, which I believe is an add on cost for the seaward.
