Does anyone know how to reset EVC error on D4? Had battery issues a while ago, and warnings will not go away. Everything works.
Thanks

Hello Bill46,

Not sure what error messages you're seeing but typically if it's not an active code or error all you need to do is cycle the ignition on and off including the battery switch for the engine. Once that's done the error message or code should go away. When I've done this is the past I'll usually leave the battery switch in the off position for a minute or so to allow everything to fully power down.

I do the same thing. I also go to the error page and make sure I press "ok" also.

Bill,

What is the error message you are getting? Like Kenny said, if the problem no longer exists it will automatically clear after resetting the ignition/battery switch. If the problem is still present it will remain on the screen and in the system till that issue is resolved. Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Wish I could post a picture.
Anyway the errors are
Check EVC SYSTEM
Acknowledge fault by pressing the OK button
Contact a Volvo Penta workshop
MID: 187 PSID: 226 FMI: 9 OCC: ___ STATUS ACTIVE

Cannot find anything online indicating what faults are. Nearest VP dealer is 2-3 hour cruise.

Any idea where to look?

Thanks Bill

Bill:

I have a Volvo Penta Workshop Manual and could not find the numbers you quoted.

Here is what I could find:
* MID = Message Identification Description. The number designates the control unit that sent the fault code message.
* PSID = Number that designates a component to which the fault relates. This is a Volvo-specific component.
* FMI = Failure Mode Identifier. FMI 9 is a communication fault.

Hope this helps a little!

Mike

I've seen this issue where it said contact a volvo workshop. This happened after I attempted to start the engine first time for the day and the battery just barely turned over the engine, but stopped and couldnt do it. I then turned on the parallel battery switch after starting the genset, let the batteries charge and the message went away. I guess the computer got all messed up when the voltage dropped too low.

Problems started with bad battery connection and low voltage.

Good morning Bill, I've found some information related to the engine code you're receiving. It sounds as if you might have a loose connection below one of the helm control units (HCU). Please feel free to send me an email at: timbates@rangertugs.com so I can help further diagnose.

MID 187, PSID 226
MID 187: PCU
FMI 9 – Abnormal update rate
Fault code explanation: PCU has lost communication with a non-activated HCU.
Fault indication: Yellow alarm status.
Fault stored in memory: No.
Possible concurrent displayed
fault code
:
MID 187, PSID 232 SAE J1939-1 SubNet 1, Control link page 150
Symptom: Not possible to activate the helm station.
Conditions for fault code: PCU has no communication with a non-activated HCU.
DTL = 2 seconds
Possible reason: • Short circuit in the power supply between the PCU and a HCU.
• Open circuit in both CAN L and CAN H wires between the PCU and a
HCU.
Suitable action: 1 Check all EVC bus wiring and connectors between the HCU and the
PCU. Check for push backs or loose wires in the connectors.

Thank you,

-Tim

Thanks Tim
Kevin sent me an email indicating communications between PCU and HCU.
Your idea of deactivated is good. Lower Helm works fine, have not tried CB.
Checked PCU connection, clean, good.
Next going to try CB and cockpit HCU and see if they work - Helm does.
Then if one does not work remove and inspect connection.
Thanks for non-activated idea.

My problem started like yours, bad battery connection, had to use parallel batteries to start. Has not yet gone away.
thanks

Discovered CB HCU is dead. Found corrosion on connector, cleaned, still dead.
Does anyone know if HCUs are interchangeable?
Would like to swap CB and Cockpit to determine if problem is HCU or wiring.
THanks
Bill

Hi Bill, these are interchangeable. If you switch the bridge and aft station controls, and the problem follows then you'll know it's a faulty HCU you're dealing with. If you have any other questions on this, please feel free to shoot me an email on the address listed below in my signature.

Thank you,

-Tim

Thanks Tim
Wednesday project will be swap.

Swapped CH and cockpit HCU.
Determined HCU bad.

Tim Bates walked me through auto configuration to configure without defective HCU.
No more errors, cabin and CB controls fine, cockpit we rarely used is disabled.

Thanks Tim, I cannot say enough about the superlative support from Ranger Tugs.

I have been boating 30 years wit many boats, and none as well designed or such great support.
