I have some greying of the teak in the roof of my rear deck. I pulled it down and started on the back side for practice. I used thompson water sealing stuff, but after 3 days has not dried. I believe it has to be completely sanded down to bare wood. I didn't do that. I just removed mold and grey spits. I think it is supposed to soak in and cannot on the areas not fully sanded free of the old coating. To do the actual teak and holly vernier I cannot sand much due to being so thin.
What is the best brand of coating to use on the front of I don't fully remove the old stuff. I don't want to sand through.
I'm in new Mexico with no boat store so I have to order it. My local lowes, ace, southerlands, home depot have NO varnish. I believe varnish is best over polyurethane, but not positive.
Any product suggestions and I can just order it. I want low maintenance, so no oils.

There are lots of posts around the internet on refinishing teak and holly veneer cabin soles, as they are extremely popular on both sail and power boats. I think those will be 90% applicable to what you're doing.

I would start with those as a guide, and then make sure to pick an exterior varnish. Jamestown and West Marine both have varnishes.

I refinished a section of teak and holly cabin sole on my last sailboat. I used a chemical stripper (can't remember which one) and then finished with a tiny bit of sanding where the stripper didn't work. A lot of the guides online suggest this, too.

Remove it and replace it with starboard. It is 1/4” plywood with a veneer. It is really not made to be out in the elements.

I’m with Brian. Teak outdoors is a pain. Lots of work and it’s really hard to keep it looking good. Many, many more important things to be working on than the exterior teak. We removed the last of our exterior teak several years ago. The starboard looks much cleaner and zero maintenance.
Teak inside looks great and is easy to maintain. There’s a reason new RTs don’t have exterior teak!

If you really want to keep the look of teak and holly (I certainly would) replace it with one of the synthetic teak decking materials. Glue it to a backer and attach the assembly to the underside of the roof same as the original panel was. Zero maintenance.

Paint it. I sanded it smooth, sealed it, then used Interlux primer and topcoat. Looks good and no more weathered teak roof.

Sounds good.
