Reverse Gear/Transmission Oil Type

The manual for my reverse gear is showing Dextron III transmission fluid. How critical is it that it is Dextron III? That is, can I used Dextron IV, V+? I know with oils, the rating is the minimum and you can go with a different grades as long as they meet the minimum rating.

Also, should I stay away from synthetic?

My thought is, while the engine is still under warranty I'd stick with exactly what the engine manufacturer recommends. Once the warranty is up you can pick whatever you'd like.
