Hi,

The Admiral and I are looking to "do" the Rideau canal sometime this summer.

Anyone recommend a reliable charter company who might offer us something similar to our R-25?

We looked into round trip transport - close to $15,000.

If there are any Ranger owners in the area who want to swap a week or so for a week or so in the Winter in Florida - the Keys are really lovely that time of the year - drop me a note.

Le Boat, a European canal-boat charter company is starting Rideau Canal charters next summer. The boats are very different from Ranger Tugs, but they look like they would be good for this type of cruising. You can check their website at

We are about to sign up for 2 weeks with
LeBoat.

I would prefer to swap a couple of weeks for some time sailing the keys, but LeBoat is a good alternative.

The price quoted must be for a boat without a trailer.
I had my 27 Ranger pulled on its trailer from St Augustine Fl to Mattapoisett, Ma on Buzzards Bay for $ 2,195 in 2015..
Used Showroom Transport in Lorton Va. They arrange with independent truckers to do the job. Trucker on my job was a very nice guy, had a big 3500 dually, checked axles, tires, and boat several times during the day. Best part was he slept in his truck when parked for the night so boat never intended. Boat arrived in great condition. I did not shrink wrap it and was advised not to.

Our tug is on the Rideau Canal, at Len's Cove marina. I know that they do rentals, you might want to contact them to see if they have a boat that you may like.

Oh and I forgot to mention that there is a compagny in Portland that rent house boat, we see them all the time on the water.

Thank you!, we chartered from LeBoat-nice looking boat.

The price of $15,000 return does seem high. I used to deliver large boats (on trailers only) as well as large RVs, using a dually diesel one ton pickup. A figure of $1.50 to $2.50 per loaded mile (i.e. one-way distance) is more typical for a trailer boat that is not overwidth. A lot of the price will depend upon your flexibility for time. The more flexible, the less likely the trucker will have to deadhead and the better the price. But do verify that the trucker is properly insured and licenced.
