Cheryll, Roam and I just completed a 297-mile fall cruise down the scenic and remote Cumberland River. The trip is similar to the Tennessee River, but you'll find fewer cruisers, anchorages, marinas and restaurants catering to boaters. Nashville is an interesting city, and Clarksville is worth a stop. You'll find our trip report and pictures at this link;

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Looks like a nice trip. Thanks for sharing with us 🙂

Very nice.... Cruising rivers looks like a very calm way to travel without much need for keeping eye on weather. Was fog ever a reason to stay docked waiting for it to lift ? Photo sharing and the captions were awesome... Thanks.

We live in Kentucky and want to do the same trip sometime. Thanks for sharing!

Enjoyed your report and pictures. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the post. Hope to buy a Ranger in 18 months!

Rich and Cheryll, thank you for the Cumberland River post. Looks like an adventure to add to the boating bucket list.

Add the Tennessee River, the Tennessee Gorge, the Tennessee Aquarium and the upper reaches of the Hiawassa River for the fall. Then if you time it right tow your boat over the Great Smoky Mountains at peak Leaf Season. Spectacular ! Alice J followed her captain like a little puppy dog. I think Rome has taken the lead and is certainly using the Ranger Tug as it was intended, in and out for short and long voyages, adventures, experiences, keep up the blog, good inspirations

Thanks for the great write up. We just bought a Cutwater 28 here in SC and are researching inland rivers to cruise. You wrote that your friend Ron drove you back to your truck and trailer. Did you have an alternate plan? Bus, train, plane? Its a little too far for Uber. 😀 Just trying to learn the logistics.
Thanks

Yes, Ron was kind enough to drive me to retrieve my trailer, and this wasn't the first time. On other trips, I've used rental cars. Enterprise is located in a lot of towns and will pick you up in many places. If I had to do this trip without Ron's help, I would have rented a car in Clarksville which is about 2/3rds of the way down the river. Then Cheryll and I would drive the rental car together to collect the trailer. She would then drive the rental car and follow me in the truck to the end point at Lighthouse Landing Marina where I would drop off the truck and trailer. Finally, we would return to Clarksville together in the rental car, drop it off, and get a ride back to the marina. This would have taken most of the day. Thanx again Ron.

On another trip, we were buddy-boating with Illusions. Mike and I drove the trailers to Mobile, AL, and then rented a car one-way for the 500 mile trip back to the starting point at Kentucky Lake. This trip took most of two days. The one-way drop fees are worth it for greater distances.

Once, I took a Greyhound bus from Jacksonville, FL to Myrtle Beach, SC. The only bus left at 2:00 AM and connected in both Savannah and Charleston. The buses were pretty comfortable once aboard, but the downtown stations were rather dodgy, particularly in the middle of the night. Never again.

Thanks for the info.
